Al-Faisal launches introductory public transport forum in Jeddah

HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Region, and Chairman of Ministerial Supervisory Commission of Public Transportation Project in Jeddah, launches the introductory forum of Jeddah Public Transport Program this morning in Leylaty Ballroom. The event is, with attendance of HRH Prince Mishaal bin Majed, Jeddah Governor and H.E. Jeddah Mayor.

Organized by Jeddah Metro Company (JMC), the forum aims to explain the master plan of public transportation project in the governorate, and the operational timetable of work progress. The forum will also examine the project strategy in contracting with AECOM Company, USA, which developed the strategy and preparatory work for implementing all public transportation program elements, together with posting construction contracts and consultancy services contracts for the project components.

Dr. Hani Aburas, Jeddah Governorate Mayor, expressed his happiness at honoring the introductory forum with attendance of the HRH the Governor of Makkah Region. This reflects HRH keenness to follow work progress and to know the minute details of the transportation project from the beginning, being the most important pioneering project in Jeddah city that will transform it to match international cities.

On his part, Dr. Osama Abdou, Executive Manager, JMC, said that the project is a development tributary, and a fruit of the country's ambitious plans in order to provide all services and facilities for a dignified life for the sons and daughters of this homeland, that matches the all-inclusive renaissance witnessed in other Saudi cities.

Dr. Abdou added that the attendance of the Governor of Makkah region would have distinct incentivizing impact on all project executing companies and consultancy firms. This visit is a close follow up of the work progress mechanism and a precise roadmap proceeding from his care and subtlety in evading mistakes and benefitting from successful experiences of advanced countries of the world. The generous follow up by His Royal Highness ensures high professional efficiency and preciseness for the project.

Some of the companies specialized in manufacturing and supplying various means of transportation will particpate in the forum, in addition to several topnotch design and construction contractors, consultancy firms, and concerned companies from Saudi Arabia and abroad. The forum will also witness signature of the third basic contract for architectural designs of the public transportation program in Jeddah governorate, between HRH the Governor of Makkah Region and H.E. MOMRA Minister, on one part and Foster & Partners, UK on the other part. On the other hand, signature of this contract is complementary to basic contracts of the project, where administration contract was signed with AECOM, USA, and engineering designs contract was signed with Systra, France,


The forum will be held with attendance of key figures from government departments, private sectors, and those who are interested in the public transport program in Jeddah Governorate.

It worth mentioning that the public transport project in Jeddah governorate is effected pursuant to the Council of Ministers' Resolution approving the project in all its components, including approval on establishing metro network, corniche tram, linking train, bus network, marine buses, Obhur Suspension Bridge, Main Public Transport Station and car parkings.
