“Republic of Korea Navy Cruise Training Task Group enters Port Jeddah”
- On September 28, two warships with 632 Sailors on board, including 144 midshipmen, visit Saudi Arabia

m The Republic of Korea Navy 2015 Cruise Training Task Group (RDML Kim, Jong-sam) enters Port Jeddah on Monday, September 28. This is CTTG’s 8th time visiting Port Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

m The CTTG consists of two warships – a 4,400ton destroyer ROKS Kang Gam Chan and a 4,200ton logistic support ship ROKS Dae Cheong – with 632 Sailors on board, including 144 midshipmen of the 70th class of the ROK Naval Academy.
m Started in 1954, this year marks the 62nd cruise training, and its purpose is to provide midshipmen with hands-on experience, cultivate practical skills, adapt to ship environment, and expand their horizons internationally. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of Korean Independence and the founding of the ROK Navy, the 70th class of the ROK Naval Academy will embark on an around-the-world cruise training, visiting 15 ports in 16 nations including the countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas for 131 days, sailing a total of 30,297NM (approx. 56,100km).
m The CTTG will enter Port Jeddah on the morning of September 28 welcomed by the Saudi Arabian Navy, local Korean residents and officials including Ambassador Kim, Jin-soo. During its 3-day stay in Jeddah, the CTTG will visit Saudi Arabian Naval Base, and will hold mutual ship tour and on-board receptions.
m On September 29, Rear Admiral Kim, Jong-sam will meet with Rear Admiral Al-Zahrani at the Saudi Arabian Navy West Fleet to discuss important issues and to expand personnel exchanges between the two navies.
m Rear Admiral Kim, Jong-sam said “Saudi Arabia has supported the Republic of Korea with supplies during the Korean War to defend our liberal
democracy. Saudi Arabia and Korea have established a diplomatic relationship in 1962, and since then Saudi Arabia, has been our good friend, interacting with us in terms of politics, economy, and diplomacy.“ He also added, ”Our President Park, Geun-hye paid a visit to Saudi Arabia in March, promising Saudi Arabia to cooperate in various areas including culture and military becoming a true ’Rafiq’, and our goal is to contribute to that great cause.“
m The 2015 ROKN CTTG will go underway on September 30, heading to its fifth port of call Alexandria, Egypt after its 3-day schedule in Jeddah.
